A lovely sunny day for this task at one of the Lincolnshire limewoods, which was a relief after some rain in the days beforehand. Rangers Kevin and Sophie had mown wildflower-rich grass along a ride in the wood, ready for our arrival.
Kevin was in charge of the tractor and baler, which struggled a bit to pick up the grass because it was damp from the recent rain. Between dragging heavy bales of damp grass to the trailer, raking up all the grass the baler missed, and then shaking out handfuls of grass along the ride (looking a little bit like cheerleaders shaking pompoms!) we got plenty of exercise. It was also hot, so we were very pleased that everything was finished by lunchtime and we were able to go home early.

It will be worth visiting this site next spring, to see how successful our efforts have been.
