Ten volunteers turned out for our day at Scotgrove Wood on the outskirts of Bardney. The wood, managed
by the Forestry Commission, is a super place to spend a day. It’s not I believe a place visited by hordes of people; we only saw a few people there during our day. I would say it’s largely enjoyed by some local dog owners for quieter walks and contemplation.

Our work was very straightforward, just cutting back young willow re-growth that was beginning to encroach into the ditches and along the edges of the main ride. We then cut this into smaller lengths and stacked it into a number of brash piles just inside the wood. We also collected and took away a few bags of
litter that it seemed someone else had gathered together and left in a spot in the wood.

We had no rain and the predicted strong winds didn’t bother us amongst the shelter of the trees. It was wet in the ditches we were working in and around but we all had wellies so all went well. We will be going back for another day of the same work in early March as there is plenty more willow to cut – we
made sure we left some for next time!
