A good number today – 14 people including a new volunteer we were glad to welcome – Joe from Sleaford.

In the lovely sunny weather we were able to pick between 4 different jobs. The main one was re-constructing an existing hardcore footpath that had become worn with much footfall, it seeing increased usage during recent times of the Covid pandemic.
The other jobs were:
- clearing ivy off the roof and sides of an outbuilding that is soon to be renovated
- digging out three old benches and concreting in heavy duty replacements, specifically at quite a low level that are designed to be used by small children
- cutting back bramble encroaching into the grassed areas around the park edges
The crew who volunteered for the big path project were soon working like a well-oiled machine. I say that although personally I was working in a different area of the park so didn’t see the majority of the path work. Popping back a few times however all seemed to be going well so I’m sure my above description is correct!! Alistair, one of the park wardens. was working closely with everyone and I know explained things very well. He was busy a lot of the time supplying the workers with hardcore from his mini dumper truck.
A lot of pictures were taken of the action (thanks to Nick Wordsworth and Julian for the pics) so I shall let these speak for themselves. We shall be doing similar work when we return for Phase II of this project in May. (Future tasks can be seen in the ‘Workday Programme’ section of our website.)
