Well, an amazing 19 volunteers turned up for this task at a new site at Sage Gardener, Eagle Hall.
We were lucky with the weather, which was mild for the time of year and dry, although the ground was muddy in places.

The work consisted of coppicing mostly hazel, leaving some overhead cover, and clearing the wood of the overgrown bramble and wild rose. This will help the natural woodland flora to thrive in the dappled light but also allow Dave and Jane to see what’s there so that they can plan the management of the wood.

There were also some large trees that had fallen and were laying over one of the paths that Nick and Julian eventually found a way of untangling. We had a bonfire to burn the bramble and small cuttings, made nature piles out of the old cut wood found lying under the bramble and lined the paths with the bigger trunks to define the routes.

I think we can say we all had an enjoyable day out in the lovely weather and working towards a really good cause.
