It started out wet and cold but soon dried up and the sun even made an appearance for the 8 volunteers keen to get outside to do some good and get some exercise.
All very different from the usual slash and burn tasks with social distancing but it wasn’t a problem working along the long ride where Colin, the wood's custodian, had through the week cut material with his chainsaw ready for us to sort out into nature piles. The idea is to widen the ride out to 10 paces taking most of the smaller trees and much of the ash out (owing to ash dieback), hoping to increase the wildflowers and biodiversity overall.
Come lunch break the heavens opened again so was all a bit wet from then on but we managed to sort most of the cut material away.
I think all enjoyed the chance to get out and get the exercise, I know I ached all over on the Monday after. Since then, we have gone int full lockdown so will be the last task for the foreseeable future.
