The weather forecast 2-3 days before today’s task was for some early rain. However, on the day we were treated to no rain and some welcome sunshine.
So nine of us enjoyed a lovely autumn day in this peaceful woodland setting. We had a nice simple task of dragging to a bonfire site pre-cut coppice that Colin, the wood’s custodian had cut earlier in the week, then sawing or lopping it down to go onto the bonfire.
Nick made his trademark fire base and with one match and his own supply of dried kindling soon had the fire going. Instinctive team work then kicked in and some dragged wood from where it had been cut, some concentrated on cutting it down to (initially) smaller pieces and some drank tea and chatted. To be fair we all drank tea and chatted! In my opinion the day is about all these things, the good social aspect and the satisfaction derived from working outdoors and being amongst nature.
If this sounds appealing we shall be returning here again for our task between Christmas and New Year.
