​We had reasonable weather for our volunteer day at Scotgrove - the first task of 2107. Not much sun but at least it was dry.

​Some years ago we created three glades along the main ride leading into the wood. Regrowth of the coppiced hazel and birch beside the ride was restricting the light along the woodland edge and into the glades, to the detriment of the spring and summer woodland flowers, and so to the wildlife.  

​It was time to clear this regrowth so we set to work with bowsaws and loppers, and had soon made a noticeable difference along the ride. We got a good bonfire going, and by the end of the day all the cut wood had been burned or stacked into habitat piles.
