We enjoyed another visit to this site today, where progress is always ongoing. Ana the site manager explained that the main job was moving a pile of compost from Ellie’s Garden, which is a 10 minute walk away, to the Hillside site. One of Hillside’s volunteers put his car and trailer at our disposal, which saved us from having to wheelbarrow the compost between the two sites. We just had to load up the trailer and it was driven round. Then, once the compost had arrived at Hillside, we barrowed it onto a couple of empty beds thus adding a nice bit of goodness to the soil. We also did some weeding and general tidying up around the garden.
We were 11 strong today with a couple of new volunteers joining us. We split into two groups and some of us set off for Ellie’s Garden. At 11.00am our internal clocks were telling us it was coffee time so we stopped for a break, a warm drink, a chat and some biscuits.
For our lunch we all sat within the protection of the large polytunnel they have on site. We were royally entertained by a local cat who was very friendly and roamed freely amongst us, lapping up the attention.
It was a shorter day today and after lunch we packed up our tools. Unfortunately it decided to throw it down just as we carried everything back to the cars but hey, are we made of sterner stuff? Just about!!
