Our first visit to this Lincs Wildlife Trust reserve, after a previously planned task was cancelled as a result of Covid restrictions in 2020. We gathered at the entrance on a sunny but windy day and were taken into the reserve by Kevin James from the Trust. Kevin set us to work restaining the fencing up to the viewing area near the main runway - an atmospheric but even windier spot!
Kevin had promised us a look around the site, so once we'd used up all the woodstain he treated us to an extensive tour, including areas not open to the public. He explained the RAF (Dambusters) related historic significance of the airfield as well as the conservation farming in progress and the biodiversity value of the reserve.
Fortunately we found a very sheltered spot behind the viewing mound for tea break and lunch and spent quite a while there chatting before heading home.
